Type offshoots are B-Daman that don't fit in to their respective category strictly, instead forming a unique subsection of their own.
The introduction of "Drive Holds" was partially responsible for this. A lot of the specialty B-Daman use Drive Holds in unique ways.
Left/Right Spin Hold:Puts a curve on the B-Dama.
Drive:Forces the B-Dama into a forward spin and gives it more power.
Back Drive:Forces the B-Dama into a backwards spin and gives it more control.
Drive Changing cores often let players alternate between these options.
Another unique example is a Balance Hold. Balance Holds serve two functions. They are often the best hold to use for indecisive players because they are so simple. But, they are also capable of "Squeeze Shots" which were introduced in the B-Daman Zero Series.By squeezing the prongs in, the B-Dama's power is increased.
Soft Stroke Holds are another unique hold, because they can be classified as all 3 types. By pushing the back trigger forward, and the side triggers back, it creates more friction on the B-Dama, and forces it out faster.
By knowing about the unique splits in types, you can assure that you know what is best suited to your B-Daman.
